Calcium is the most plentiful mineral found in the human body. The teeth and bones contain the most calcium. Nerve cells, body tissues, blood, and other body fluids contain the rest of the calcium. The remaining 1% is found ionised in the blood, the lymph nodes, the plasma and the cells. Though a very small amount, its level must be maintained in order to ensure the proper functioning of muscles, heart and nerves. Lack of calcium at this level could provoke spasms and spasmophilia. Calcium also promotes the healing of wounds.
