The average 70kg person contains 3g of zinc spread among all cells but principally concentrated in the liver, kidneys and above all in the prostate or ovaries.
Zinc acts principally in the following ways:
- it regulates the hypophasis (thus intervening in the immune and growth systems);
- it acts on the body fats, proteins and above all the glucosides whose levels in the blood it helps to regulate.
- Zinc is involved in the production of active sperm. Each ejaculation contains approximately 1mg zinc. Vaginal and prostatic secretions are also rich in zinc. It could be said that zinc favours sexual balance.
In conjunction with manganese and calcium, zinc acts against the free radicals. It is an antioxidant, thus slowing down the ageing process. It activates vitamin A and thus protects cell membranes. In the light of all these data it is clear that zinc deficiencies must be avoided at all costs.
